Fifty Years, One Recipe Card, Three Generations

ANYTOWN — Grandma has baked her gingerbread stars every Christmas for fifty years. This year, for the first time, she let someone else hold the rolling pin.

Ava, 16, rolled the dough while Grandma coached from the next stool ("thinner, sweetheart, thinner"). Leo, 9, was put in charge of sprinkles. Officials report that roughly half of them reached a cookie.

The recipe card, written in Grandma's hand in 1976, is now held together with tape and a little butter. Ava photographed both sides so it can never be lost, and texted it to every cousin before the first tray was out of the oven.

Asked for the secret after fifty years, Grandma said only: "Chill the dough, and never bake alone."

The Scoop

Beagle Opens His Present Early

Biscuit the beagle located, unwrapped and inspected his own gift two days before Christmas. It was a bone. He approved. The wrapping paper did not survive.
